Questions for Writing Conference

Some questions for my writing conference would have to be if my slide show is long enough, because i feel like i'm not getting enough information and that's whats stressing me out the most. Also i want to make sure i have this whole thing set up right.

Summarize and respond to at least three of the four texts in your bibliography. How will you use each of these in your webtext? Do you need to find other sources to help you fully answer your questions? What information will you look for? Where do you expect to find it?

  1. Web MD website: I will use this in my webtext by pointing out the information for prescribed diet pills for the obese people. I will use some more information from other sources just to get a better view on it. I expect to find it on other websites that are credible.
  2. The Article from About.com: This article talks about sibutramine which is an ingredient in some diet pills that is harmful to the body. This website goes into detail with this particular subject so i do not think i will need to search for anything else.
  3. Go Diet Pills: I'm going to be using information about the two types of diet pills from this website. The fat blockers, and the appetite suppressants. Again this website goes into detail so i won't need to search for anything else.

Brainstorming for Podcast Slide Show

For my slide show podcast i was thinking about maybe talking about diet pills, i don't know yet...i need help!

HELP ME :]

Podcast Review

My podcast was reviewed by Lauren and Crystal. I learned that i need to have a more enthusiastic voice, and have different volumes. I also need to work on flowing better with what i have to say. I will talk about where to get the different foods since i should have been a little more specific about that and I'll just try harder on being more enthusiastic about my voice so people won't be wanting to fall asleep :] ha ha

As for written versus said text i think it's the same. I tried really hard to stay on my script so i didn't stray from it.

Thank you Lauren and Crystal! It helped me a lot!

Podcast Script--Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers has been one of the fastest growing weight loss groups since the early nineteen sixty's. It is a program that encourages getting a healthy body by living a healthy lifestyle. It uses a point system, which means it gives points for the food one eats and it works because one is not supposed to go over their required number of points. The number of points recommended for each person is determined by age, height and weight. Weight Watchers is not the type of weight loss group that has a list of foods people can eat, and a list of foods that people can't eat. It allows people to make healthier food choices and encourages physical activity so that people can lose weight, and keep it off.

Weight Watchers comes with two plans that are available. One plan is called the Flex Plan which involves counting the calories and points and keeping track of them, and the other plan is the Core plan which involves focusing on wholesome foods and skipping the counting aspect of the plan. Both plans however are built around Weight Watchers Healthy Eating Guidelines which are the recommendations about daily intake of fruits, vegetables, dairy, water, protein, vitamins, sugars, healthy oils, and whole-grain foods.

Weight Watchers hold local meetings in areas near where people live once a week. At these meetings people will receive motivation, mutual support and encouragement in handling the challenges people will face in the process.

----I'm still working on it, so i will most likley be adding things to this periodically to make it better.

Comments and suggestions will be helpful :]
thanks guys.

Peer Review

While reading Shakira's webtext, it helped me realize that i need to add in more links and more information about fad dieting. It seemed like she was really interested about her topic, and it made me interested to learn more about it. Everything flowed really nicely, and made her seem like she did her research and new alot about what she was talking about.

When i read the peer review that Tom wrote for me, i was helped alot. He mentioned things that were good, so i knew i was doing something right, and he also helped me with possible topics to talk about--which i did. I was able to put better points in my webtext because of his good ideas. It seems easier and more put together now that it is finished, and i'm glad he said some of the things he said.

After having the conference today with Crystal, it made me realize that i needed to put more information in where it was needed. She was really clear about what she wanted me to add in, and it made it easier to do my revisions. I also got some good ideas to add in as well and also i was able to make my sections better. I do believe she helped me and i'm glad she told me what she did, because usually other people might be a little nervoous to tell you something that isn't right in your paper because they don't want to hurt you, but she was honest and that helps more.

My Audience

Since my topic is about dieting I think it will interest people who are trying to lose weight. People need to realize that fad dieting isn't beneficial to them.

How many people will make up my audience?
--My audience will make up anyone who wants to learn about fad diets

How well does my audience understand English?
--They understand enough.

How much does my audience know about the topic?
--I believe my audience knows a little about fad dieting, but by the end of this webtext i would assume they would know more.

What is my audience’s reason for reading my work?
--To learn about yo-yo dieting.

What are my audience’s expectations about my written work?
--To be more informed about why yo-yo dieting is not the best choice for losing weight.

What is my audience’s attitude toward me and my work?
--I would hope they understand why i chose to do my project on fad dieting.

What do I want my audience to do after reading my work?
--I want my audience to understand that there are many health risks that are involved in yo-yo dieting, and i want to be able to persuade them to focus on losing weight the old fashioned way--a HEALTHY diet and excercise.

--My purpose is to inform people on the harmful effects of fad dieting, but also to persuade them to lose weight the correct way.

--My tone would have an informal voice to it, because i want it to be interesting and i don't want people reading it feel like they HAVE to read it, but want to.

THANK YOU :]
